Ružomberok

Town Ružomberok with its historical centre, which is one of two major towns of Liptov region, is located at the junction of rivers Váh and Revúca. It offers wide range of opportunities for all visitors.

Its oldest monuments are Andrej Hlinka square, Roman Catholic church of St. Andrew and monastery church of St. Cross. Under the square you will find Mausoleum of Andrej Hlinka. But there are a lot more interesting places right in the town, such as Liptov Museum Ružomberok, unique Scout museum and art-lovers will enjoy Gallery of Ľudovít Fulla. Apart from culture, there are also opportunities for active relax. There are tennis courts, you can play bowling, paintball, there is also a laser shooting range. Going down river Váh on boats or riding horses are activities that are very popular with tourists. In winter, town ski centre Ružomberok – Malino Brdo, which belongs to the largest centres and has the longest ski slope in Slovakia, offers you its services.

Vlkolínec – UNESCO monument

Vlkolínec is a conservation area of folk architecture that was in 1993 written into United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). It is located in south-east part of National Park Veľká Fatra at 718 metres above sea level. Vlkolínec is still a living village and is special mainly for its timber houses architecture in the most integrated urban complex of original folk buildings in central Europe. People still live in 18 out of the total number of 55 houses. The most valuable buildings are timber belfry, timber winch well and church of Visitation of Virgin Mary. The visitors can see Roľnicky (Peasant) house where there is an exhibition of original household and Gallery of Folk Art which is placed in former school. You can get to Vlkolínec on the road, following a number of market tourist routes and cycle paths or by a cable car near ski centre Ružomberok – Malino Brdo. Many cultural events take place here every year.
